PALOMA DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS 06/16/2025
COO! COO! Coongratulations, Paloma Skyway Bridge attestation upgrades are coming in the next release of Paloma. During cross-chain tests for RWA and ETF tokens last week, the Volume team noticed that Skyway batches were re-sending tokens across the bridge. This issue arises because validators are failing to attest to submitted batches, and there are no on-chain consequences for such failures. Paloma will upgrade to increase the jail time for validators to 12 hours for failure to attest. Also, Paloma will not resubmit batches until attestation is successful. Paloma also begins work on the Starknet bridge with the Starkware team! COO! COO!
PALOMA UPGRADE RELEASE COMING THIS WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18
Paloma’s Skyway Bridge depends on validators to report observations on target chains in 600ms or less. Validators that fail to attest properly due to problematic RPC endpoints will now be penalized via validator-jailing by a governance setting that establishes a new penalty for such failures. The new governance module will now increase the timeout for problematic validators that are not able to rejoin the network. Validators and the community will need to vote on the new jailing timeout. This timeout will be set for both logic call attestation failures and batch submit attestation failures.
In addition, Paloma Skyway Batch system will be upgraded with the same features as the Paloma Logic Call system. Batches, like Logic Calls, will be held for resubmission when attestation is still pending. In this way, we avoid repeated batches of delivering tokens across the bridge.
Validators: This new feature will mean that validators without reliable RPC connections will be jailed more frequently and will take longer to come back online. This will frustrate validators that do not have quality RPC endpoints for their target chains. However, this will also mean that the validator consensus set will consist of validators with reliable cross-chain observation infrastructure. Validators and delegators will not be slashed, but extended jailing will mean that stakers will not collect block emissions as validators wait to come back online. COO! COO!
PALOMA BEGINS NEW BRIDGE DESIGN FOR STARKNET
The Volume and Paloma teams have begun work on engineering a new bridge for Starknet. Thanks to the Starkware team, the Paloma team has Cairo migration support for Paloma’s Vyper smart contracts. The team will continue to work on the Starknet bridge design, aiming to prepare Paloma upgrade tests for deployment.
