Paloma Weekly Wings: January 17, 2024 - Paloma Upgrades Compass-EVM Migrations, Paloma Chain Processes $10MM in Volume, and Vitwit Completes Cosmos-SDK v0.50.0 Module Upgrades

Welcome to the weekly update on new software design from the Paloma community of developers.

REMINDER WARNING:

The Hatchling Paloma Network of “Messenger” (v1.11.0) and the Pigeon relay module are on v1.10.2. Paloma is still young, and its Cosmwasm and EVM contracts are still unaudited and undergoing continuous upgrades on the protocol and its smart contracts. The GRAIN token is available on the Paloma mainnet but is not yet trading on exchanges. Although the flock is flying on the

messenger

mainnet, it is still subject to the continued development of Paloma’s cross-chain messaging system and the security guarantees offered by the GRAIN token. We expect “Messenger” to experience weekly chain halts and chain restarts. We also expect numerous undiscovered vulnerabilities. No one on this project controls or influences the price of GRAINs. The community will strive to preserve the mainnet state, which includes balances, but considers this mainnet high-risk. Proceed with caution.

What happens when Paloma needs to update its Compass-EVM light client deployed to over 20 EVM blockchains, with approximately 1,000 contracts, each, using the network? Well, this is a critical problem. It’s impractical to propose a governance proposal for each chain and then force developers to upgrade their contracts. The team at Volume, with this new release, delivers Compass-EVM upgrades as described below:

This new flow adds much complexity due to the asynchronous and distributed workflow governing a successful contract deployment. We will continue to monitor and upgrade this feature as we continue past Pigeon Feed and onboard more contracts from more EVM chains. Community members wishing to acquire a GRANT in GRAINS to explore further improvements to this feature or move into a module are invited to share their thoughts in the Discord channel for mainnet.

The vote to upgrade Paloma to v1.11.0 is currently in voting at:

Palomachain hits $10MM in Volume on the continued growth of the cross-chain bots from the Palomabot project. The latest bot with the most volume was the Curve DEGEN Leverage Bot. This bot offers 10x leverage using crvUSD. The collateral tokens accepted are:

Each of these tokens represents a specific narrative for leverage positions. Two collateral tokens provide varying amounts of yield to ETH token holders. Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) is for those users who prefer to make leverage positions on Bitcoin’s future price action.

The Vitwit team has just completed updates and tests on the Paloma v0.50.0 chain upgrade. We look to the Vitwit team to approve the final Pull Request to merge the last module. Once that merge is complete, our next step will be to upgrade Pigeon to Cosmos-SDK v0.50.0 and launch a private testnet to test functionality. We expect ongoing breakage and refactoring with surprises on this new code base. We look forward to completing tests quickly.

Paloma aims to launch decentralized Mirror Trading bots on Rysk Finance and Premia on Arbitrum as the network continues to find alignment with decentralized execution use cases with demonstrably strong demand by decentralized exchanges. Paloma attestation upgrades continue the work of Pigeon Feed, starting with the release of Paloma 10.0.2. We continue to partner with Vitwit for Paloma’s upgrade to Cosmos-SDK 0.50.0 with the first merges into the master branch. We continue to fly faster and faster with each week! COO! COO!
