Paloma mainnet messenger blockchain launches in June with the latest versions of Paloma v1.1.0 and Pigeon v1.1.1 for validators to increase performance for message controls, message security and message queue processing. The vision for Paloma is to continue to make it easy for developers to give controls of their EVM smart contracts to the Paloma validator set. Read below for new features and last week’s accomplishments.
Another week, another round of Upgrades for Paloma’s validator community. Congratulations to all of the Paloma community. Paloma v1.1.0 released and is on mainnet. Its big change is the forwarding of Paloma public keys and Coswmasm sender addresses via all logic call payloads. The value of sending these addresses is that any EVM developer may filter all messages from Paloma that do not match the attached payload information. This is the first major Paloma security enhancement that is opt-in and allows developers to control which Paloma signers can control the liquidity in their EVM accounts. This simple change is opt-in so that EVM developers that only need anonymous execution may still enjoy that for their smart contracts they have assigned to be owned and controlled by Paloma Compass-EVM.
Security is important and this feature is the first of a number of coming features that provide access-control in both Paloma and the target chain for logic-call execution.

Again, it was about security for Paloma last week. Valset updates from Paloma capture the power of the validators that may up the signing key for all Paloma relay transactions. All active validators participate in the valset updates, but we noticed that they get expensive when there are no cross-chain communications. Validators in Paloma currently shoulder the expense of valset updates for each chain. As Paloma’s light client deploys to more chains, this becomes a growing expense that puts the chain security at risk when validators accept being jailed for lacking tokens for valset updates. Thus, we want to address this security risk with the validator set and update valsets to be smarter and more efficient. Last week, we outlined a proposal to update validator set updates to only consume target chain native token gas when valset updates are needed. This will be either before logic calls or at a minimum once per week, if the power of the validator set changes. With this new change, we aim to cut down the costs for validators to secure different chains and increase the relevance of valset updates to secure messages when they are needed. Thanks to the feedback from all the active validators, we look forward to another release of Paloma with these changes this week.

It is the only living member of the genus Caloenas alongside the extinct spotted green pigeon, and is the closest living relative of the extinct dodo and Rodrigues solitaire.
Validator happiness is critical to a successful Paloma network. If validators perceive that demand for the datacenter resources will result in increased demand for GRAINs, they will upgrade their systems and attract more pigeons to the network.
